The “Zoom Boom” Increase in Plastic Surgery Procedures

During the COVID pandemic, the use of Zoom, FaceTime, and even face masks brought to light many of the facial imperfections we often overlook. Constantly looking at our screens and what shows of our face outside of the masks, has accentuated the sagging skin, wrinkles, lines, and puffiness that are part of the aging process. At Palm Beach Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Fredric Barr and his staff have positive solutions to help restore and rejuvenate tissues of the face and neck.

The Zoom Effect

Men and women alike have found that they don’t like the way they look on Zoom. For those who wear masks, it’s all about the eyes and the way they look. During the pandemic, most surgical procedures were canceled for safety reasons. Now that doctors have started to perform surgical procedures again, Dr. Barr and his staff have started to see an increase in the number of procedures for both men and women. In fact, the office has seen a 25% jump in the number of procedures for men alone.

Preferences by Gender

When men come to see Dr. Barr, they are primarily interested in face/neck lift and upper and lower blepharoplasties (upper and lower eyelid lifts). They also take advantage of Botox, fillers, and other skincare procedures that remove excess tissue and tighten skin. The goal is to slow down or stop the aging process, if only for a short period of time.
Women, are requesting the mini-facelift procedure. This includes the upper and lower blepharoplasties and the neck and jowl lift. All of these procedures are performed under local anesthesia, allowing the patient to resume their normal activities as soon as they leave the Dr.’s office. Because the procedures are minimally invasive, the incisions heal faster, resulting in minimal bruising, and less inflammation.
Small incisions are made in the natural crease in front and behind the ears to minimize scarring and keep bruising to a minimum. Each incision is strategically placed so that Dr. Barr can make the most out of every procedure giving patients the youthful glow they expect once they leave the office.

Slowing Down the Aging Process

Advanced techniques like mini facelifts and upper/lower blepharoplasties, as well as many non-surgical procedures like Botox and fillers, rejuvenate the skin and tissues. Fatty deposits and excess tissue are removed, allowing the skin to tighten and giving a more natural appearance. This minimizes wrinkles and literally makes the patient look approximately 10 years younger. Because the procedures are minimally invasive, the healing time is much shorter and results often last as long as more extensive procedures.

From the First Step to the Last

Once a patient has decided on a procedure, the first step involves meeting Dr. Barr’s assistant, Carla Pisani. She gets to know as much as possible about the patient, including their interests, lifestyle, and expectations. She listens to the patients’ expectations while providing by asking direct questions. This ensures that everyone is on the same page. Everyone from the doctor to the patient must have realistic expectations when it comes to the final outcome of the procedure. After the procedure is over, the staff goes the extra mile, with constant communication throughout their recovery. Communication is the key to a happy patient and a positive outcome.
